I had bilateral hip resurfacing on 1-7-09.  My doctor said I could golf when the courses opened here in MN.  He was  right,
I was able to play, in a cart, in early April.  I was exhausted after, but there was no pain while playing.  Within 3 weeks I was walking the course again (pushing a cart).  My scores have been the same as the end of last year, which was as good as I have ever played.  Right now I can ride a bike and in-line skate but I can't run or ski (if it was winter).  As far as I know golf is the easiest sport to get back into.

Hello,

Just thought I'd check in on this site- it's been a while, and saw the golf subject.

I'm an avid golfer & had my left hip resurfaced by the wizard Dr. Harold Boyd on 10/10/2002.  I was 40 at the time and my recovery was pretty quick.  Seems like I remember swinging the club after about 10-12 weeks & playing a full round within 4 months.

I now play at least a couple times a week and my resurfaced hip is a non-issue.  My GHIN index is 3.2 and about half the rounds I play are walking, packing my bag.

If you ever make it to Bandon, OR to play some golf, look me up- I'd enjoy playing with a fellow surfacehippy.

I am at 6 weeks and was out on the course Saturday and today. We only went 9, and I played kind of a best ball with my wife. I did absolutely no driving and very little woods, but I hit quite a few irons and putted. No unusual discomfort. I AM active all year round though, so I'm guessing that might make a difference. In winter I am on the ice four nights a week and summer I usually walk the course when I golf. I DID cart this weekend. When I spoke with my doc, he admitted it's really hard to make blanket recommendations because everyone is different. When I started back to walking, if I had ANY discomfort I stopped, and shortened my route for the next time. I continue my PT religiously, regardless of what else I do.
