Hi to all! My story. Fanatic tennis player, 56 years old. I played without knowing it with severe osteoarthritis, bone against bone, all summer. Limping and with painkillers, even matches. Finally in September I went for x-ray and learnt I need prosthesis. Thanks to having read about Andy Murray I knew about hip resurfacing that is not done in my country. One surgeon was totally against it and another was positive because he had done that about ten years ago when it still was allowed. I went to Belgium and Dr. Koen De Smet for my operation. Metal on metal, cemented, Adept. The operation went fine and after about a week back home. Only one scaring issue I have had. Still in Belgium when I was out walking I got pain and cramps in my hip and it was a nightmare to get back to the hotel. But the next day everything felt fine again. I followed the post op directives of walking two weeks with two crutches, then two weeks with one crutch and then without. I bought a stationary bike to my home and started on it directly when I got home one week after operation. After that I got enthusiastic and bought a cross trainer, rowing machine and stepper to my home-gym. Actually this I should have done long time ago. Easy to be able to train at home. Now two months after the operation I have no pain, the swelling almost totally disappeared and flexibility is better than before. Strength is building up, but despite that I am now able to train with the machines at normal pace, same as before operation.  I have had clunking , but that has got less and less and now almost totally disappeared. When I have passed the three months mark (the scheme of De Smet)  I will start to run and play tennis again. So far everything ok, but I stay humble, thankful to Dr. Koen de Smet and his team and happy for every pain free day.

It's a wonderful relief to be free of the OA pain and get on with enjoying life.  Congratulations on the success of your surgery.   Train smart, before you know it you'll be back on the courts.
